چکیده

Five camelid trackways from Arizona and New Mexico are described. Two trackways from the Bear Springs Badland (early Blancan) of Graham County, Arizona, represent a large camel, possibly Camelops or Megatylopus, and a medium-sized camel, possibly Hemiauchenia or Pleiolama. We also describe three camelid trackways from New Mexico. A medial Miocene (late Barstsovian) trackway from the Benavidez Ranch Local Fauna in Sandoval County represents a primitive, medium-sized camel, probably Protolabis. A late Miocene (early Hemphillian) trackway from the Gabaldon Fauna on the Isleta Pueblo in Valencia County is from a large camel possibly referable to the large lamine Alforjas. A late Pliocene (Blancan) trackway from the Cerros del Rio volcanic field near Santa Fe in Santa Fe County was made by a very large camel such as Gigantocamelus. The morphology for all five of these trackways fits within the definition of the ichnogenus Lamaichnum. We describe the characteristics of the trackways left by pacing and trotting camels and horses, and conclude that they can be differentiated in at least some cases in the fossil record.

Why do quadrupeds exhibit exclusively either trot or pace gaits?

Quadrupeds exhibit versatile gait patterns (walk, trot, pace, bound, etc.), in response to the locomotion speed and environmental conditions [1]. Furthermore, in the middle speed locomotion, quadrupeds exhibit “exclusively” either trot or pace gaits; horses exhibit a tort gait, whereas camels exhibit a pace gait. These locomotor patterns are generated via the coordination of limb movements, i.e...

Gait Transition of Quadruped Robot without Interlimb Neural Connections

Quadrupeds exhibit versatile gait patterns (walk, trot, pace, bound, etc.) in response to locomotion speed [1, 2]. These locomotor patterns are generated via the coordination between limb movements, i.e., interlimb coordination. However, the interlimb coordination mechanism for the generation of such locomotor patterns requires further investigation because it has not been clarified thus far.

Dynamics in the dynamic walk of a quadruped robot

Walk can be classi ed as \static walk" and \dynamic walk". It is said that dynamic walk is superior in both speed and energy consumption. This paper describes how a quadruped robot should walk dynamically to realize these advantages. Such consideration is lacking in past research. In this paper, three criteria are introduced to evaluate the walk { `stability', `maximum speed' and `energy consum...

The energetics of the trot-gallop transition.

Two studies have focused on potential triggers for the trot-gallop transition in the horse. One study concluded that the transition was triggered by metabolic economy. The second study found that it was not metabolic factors but, rather, peak musculoskeletal forces that determine gait transition speeds. In theory, peak musculoskeletal forces should be the same when trotting up an incline as whe...

The reliability and validity of gait speed with different walking pace and distances against general health, physical function, and chronic disease in aged adults

PURPOSE Gait speed is an important objective values associated with several health-related outcomes including functional mobility in aging people. However, walking test methodologies and descriptions are not standardized considering specific aims of research. This study examine the reliability and validity of gait speed measured at various distances and paces in elderly Koreans. METHODS Fifty...
